Getting a timely and accurate diagnosis is critical for potentially life-threatening diseases such as cancer, cardiovascular disease or HIV. If a disease somehow slips past a diagnostic test, patients may not get the prompt treatment they need.
Sword Diagnostics of Illinois has developed a “next-generation” system to increase the sensitivity (and therefore accuracy) of diagnostic tests. Many diagnostic tests have a chemical added in the last stage of testing that causes a color change in the presence of the substance being tested for. Sword’s system uses a different chemical to increase the sensitivity of the tests. In October, Sword was issued a patent for its technology.
